Sam Wilson, known as Falcon, debuted in Marvel Comics' Captain America #117 (September 1969). He is a social worker from Harlem who encounters Captain America while stranded on Exile Island.
Originally possessing no inherent superpowers, Wilson gained a telepathic link with his falcon, Redwing, enabling him to see through the bird's eyes and communicate with it. He also became a skilled acrobat and martial artist under Captain America's tutelage.
